Level 1 charging is slow

A standard 120 V outlet delivers about 1.4 kW, which is 3 to 5 miles of range an hour. Overnight that is 30 to 50 miles, and that is fine right up until it isn't.

CCS cars are locked out of the biggest network

Tesla's Supercharger network is the densest fast-charging network in North America, and a CCS1 car cannot physically plug into it.

A projector usually means another box

Most projectors ship without apps, so the picture depends on a streaming stick, a laptop or a phone cable, and on getting the geometry square by hand.

The 40 A Level 2 chargers take that 1.4 kW up to 9.6 kW, roughly 22 to 34 miles of range an hour. The NACS-to-CCS adapter gives a Ford, Rivian or GM EV access to 15,000 Tesla V3 and V4 Supercharger ports. The projector has Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video installed and squares its own image on the wall, so nothing else needs plugging in.

40 A Level 2, adjustable down to 8 A

The Level 2 chargers run 240 V at 40 A, which is 9.6 kW, or roughly 22 to 34 miles of range an hour depending on the car. Seven current settings starting at 8 A let the charger match a circuit that cannot carry the full 40 A, and a delayed start of up to 12 hours moves the load to off-peak rates.

J1772, NACS, and a bridge between them

The J1772 model fits every J1772 BEV and PHEV except the Toyota Prius and RAV4, and reaches a Tesla with an adapter. The NACS model plugs straight into a Model S, 3, X, Y or Cybertruck. The NACS-to-CCS adapter runs the other direction, opening 15,000 Tesla V3 and V4 Supercharger ports to Ford, Rivian and GM cars.

Generator power, wired properly

The 30 A kit carries 7,500 W through 10/4 AWG copper on a NEMA L14-30P plug; the 50 A kit carries 12,500 W on a NEMA 14-50P. Each ships with a pre-drilled inlet box that opens on any of four sides, so the conduit enters from whichever direction the panel is on, and both cord and box are ETL listed.

1080p at 800 ANSI lumens

The projector is native 1920 x 1080 with a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, and accepts 4K input to display at 1080p. AI auto-focus settles in about three seconds, 6D keystone squares the image on an off-axis wall, and the 360-degree stand will point it at a ceiling.

Netflix without a streaming stick

Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video are installed, with an App Store and Google Play behind them. Dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi carries the stream, Bluetooth sends audio to a speaker, and HDMI with CEC takes a console.

IP66, CCID20, ETL listed

The chargers are ETL, UL and ROHS certified, sealed to IP66, and rated from -44 to +122 F. CCID20 leakage protection is built in, so the circuit needs no separate GFCI breaker. The adapter is IP65 in a UL 94-V0 flame-retardant PA66 housing, and the projector's optical engine is sealed against dust.

Getting started

    Check the outlet first

    The 40 A chargers use a NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 50 A circuit wired in 8 AWG. The portable Level 1 and 2 charger uses NEMA 6-20 for 240 V, or its NEMA 5-15 adapter for an ordinary household socket. Plug the charger into the wall before you connect it to the car, or the buttons will not respond.

    Set the current, then the timer

    Press the A button to pick a current between 8 and 40 A. Set a delayed start of 0.5 to 12 hours to charge at off-peak rates. The LCD reads out voltage, current and power while it runs.

    Set up the projector

    Power it on and the auto-focus and 6D keystone square the image within about three seconds. Join Wi-Fi to reach the built-in apps. HDMI with CEC, USB, AV and 3.5 mm audio cover everything else.

Seven settings from 8 to 40 A let the charger match the circuit it is plugged into. The 0.5 to 12 hour delay moves charging to cheap hours. A 2.4-inch LCD shows voltage, current and power as it charges.

Both connector standards

The J1772 charger covers non-Tesla EVs, the NACS charger covers every Tesla including Cybertruck, and the adapter takes a CCS1 car into Tesla's Supercharger network. The projector connects over HDMI, USB, AV, 3.5 mm, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

What vehicles work with the INFGO Level 2 EV Charger?+

Every J1772 BEV and PHEV, with two exceptions INFGO names: the Toyota Prius and the RAV4. Tesla vehicles work through a J1772-to-NACS adapter, which is not in the box. If you drive a Tesla, the NACS version of the same charger skips the adapter.

Which Superchargers does the NACS to CCS adapter work with?+

Tesla V3 and V4 stations only; V1 and V2 are not supported. The car needs a CCS1 port and Supercharger access, which covers many Ford, Rivian and GM EVs. Check the station in the Tesla app, PlugShare or Google Maps before you drive to it.

What charging speed does the Level 1 and 2 Tesla charger give?+

Level 2 through the NEMA 6-20 plug is 240 V at 16 A, a maximum of 3.84 kW, which INFGO rates at 9 to 13 miles of range per hour. Level 1 through the NEMA 5-15 adapter is 120 V at 12 A, 1.44 kW, rated at 3 to 5 miles per hour.

What size generator cord do I need, 30 A or 50 A?+

Match the outlet on your generator, not your wishes. A generator with a NEMA L14-30R outlet takes the 30 A kit and carries up to 7,500 W. One with a NEMA 14-50R outlet takes the 50 A kit and carries up to 12,500 W. The connectors are not interchangeable, and the cord cannot raise what the generator produces.

Do I need an electrician to install the inlet box?+

Yes. Connecting a generator to a building's wiring requires a transfer switch or an interlock installed to local code. Without one, back-feeding a panel puts voltage onto the utility line, which is dangerous for line workers and illegal in most places. The kit supplies the cord and the box; the tie-in is an electrician's job.

What breaker and cable does the 40 A charger need?+

INFGO specifies a 50 A breaker and 8 AWG cable for the full 40 A setting, which follows the standard rule of rating an EV charger's circuit at 125 percent of its continuous draw. Lower settings need less: 32 A calls for a 40 A breaker, 16 A for a 20 A breaker. Have any new circuit installed by a licensed electrician to your local code.

How much range does a 40 A charger add per hour?+

At 9.6 kW, roughly 22 to 34 miles an hour, depending on how efficient the car is. That spread comes from real EV consumption of about 2.3 to 3.5 miles per kilowatt-hour, the same band INFGO's own published figures for its smaller charger imply. A 120 V household outlet adds 3 to 5 miles an hour by comparison.

Does the 1080p projector have streaming apps built in?+

Yes. Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video are pre-installed, and both an App Store and Google Play are on board for anything else.

What safety features do the EV chargers have?+

ETL, UL and ROHS certification, protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and leakage, IP66 sealing, and CCID20 leakage protection built into the unit, which is what removes the need for a separate GFCI breaker.
